The focus of research at the Welding and Joining Institute (ISF) of RWTH Aachen University is the investigation of all modern industrially relevant non-detachable joining technologies. Those methods include the arc joining processes, the entire spectrum of the electron and laser beam welding methods, resistance and friction welding processes and also adhesive bonding. In connection, also work about the processing of current materials with welding methods, about automation and mechanisation, process simulation and also about occupational safety and environmental protection is carried out.
The relation between the voltage and the arc length in gas metal arc welding (GMAW) is an important characteristic. It depends on a complex distribution of the electric conductivity along the current path and does not depend on the arc length...
