The Leibniz Institute for Plasma Science and Technology (INP) is the largest non-university institute in the field of low temperature plasmas, their basics and technical applications in Europe. The institute carries out research and development from idea to prototype. The topics focus on the needs of the market. At present, plasmas for materials and energy as well as for environment and health are the focus of interest.

Fast framing images of the kINPen Science as example set of images for testing BLITZ image viewer

The dataset contains a set of 180 images showing the dynamics of the effluent of the kINPen Science at a distance of 7 mm in front of a grounded copper plate. The image data set can be analysed by means of the open-source BLITZ image viewer (, shading light on the plasma-induced flow dynamics.

Plasma Source Name
Plasma Source Application
Plasma Source Specification
Plasma Source Properties

kINPen Science with 7 mm distance to a grounded copper plate and an operation frequency of about 1 MHz

Plasma Medium Name
Plasma Medium Properties

5 slm argon were supplied via bronkhorst flow control in the KDK labs of the INP.
Room humidity was between 25% to 40% and temperature was 21°C.

Plasma Target Properties
A grounded copper plate was placed at 7 mm away from the capillary.
Plasma Diagnostics Name
Plasma Diagnostics Properties

The images were acquired by using the Kirana 5M camera of Specialised Instruments at a frame rate of f = 100 kHz. The exposure time is set to 1/f, so 10 µs exposure is acquired per image. With an operation frequency of the kINPen Science around 1 MHz, a total of 10 voltage periods are averaged per image.

Plasma Diagnostics Procedure

The discharge images were acquired in consecutive manner.
