The publication investigated the decontamination process of porcine umbilical cord tissue using plasma functionalized liquid alone and in combination with ultrasound. The challenge was to achieve lasting and complete decontamination without damaging tissue integrity because viable mesenchymal stem cells were extracted in the following step. The dataset contains numbers of counted colony forming units (CFU) of cultured microorganisms after the different iteration steps of tissue decontamination. Each worksheet summarizes the numbers of one figure. Further, the dataset contains cell counts and the ratio of viable cells as detected by DAPI stain.

| Plasma Source Specification | |
| Plasma Source Properties | The plasma functionalized liquid was generated by the plasma source Plexc2 at ambient conditions. This two-stage system operates at 2.45 GHz and produces plasma processed air that is mixed with liquid in an international bulk container of 1 m³. |
| Plasma Source Procedure | 4 liters of sodium chloride solution were treated for 4 minutes. |
| Plasma Medium Name | |
| Plasma Medium Properties | For all experiments 0.9 % physiological sodium chloride solution (w/v) was used. The temperature was room temperature. |
| Plasma Medium Procedure | The physiological sodium chloride solution was processed in the Plexc2 plasma device and applied immediately to the tissue. |
| Plasma Target Name | |
| Plasma Target Properties | The treated target were fresh porcine umbilical cords. |
| Plasma Target Procedure | The plasma functionalized sodium chloride solution was used as a washing solution in which umbilical cords were rinsed. |
